Suzuki The preferred method is to flush with a flush-muff attachment or built-in port. Expose it to salt water and then drain it like it does in any outboard selfdraining The salt corrosion is worse.

Built-In Flushing Attachments Make sure you have a hose, water source, and the keys to the engine before you start flushing. I grew up along the Gulf Coast of Florida and before salt-away was created people used vinegar to flush motors with good results. Many are plastic, and can be ruined quickly if threaded incorrectly with the brass fitting of a garden hose.

I have a 1994 85HP Suzuki outboard that started overheating on me last year. I religiously flush it after every trip out in the salt. I had it serviced and he replaced the impeller. It pumps water great. I tried replacing the thermostat but I am still not getting enough water over the heads of the pistons. If I pull the head cover, am I going to be able to clean out the water lines inside, or is this going to require a complete teardown? Thanks Update: Overheating Suzuki Outboard question Tore into the motor last night. First pulled off the thermostat cover and tried blowing through the holes. Large one clear, small one plugged. Tried to pull the head cover off, but the bolts weren't budging. Decided to take some cooling system flush and a semi-stiff wire and work the crap loose. Took about a half an hour, but it finally broke loose. Fired the motor with the thermostat cap still off to flush out all the corrosion base was in a large tub of water. Put it back together and the temps seem to be in normal range. Will do a test run on Saturday at Pt. Fishing report to follow. Tore into the motor last night.
